It’s National Volunteer Appreciation Week!

There are many different pieces to running a nonprofit and if you’re missing one then you can’t complete the puzzle. At Living for Zachary we have so many important people that have helped shape this organization and we are very grateful! This week we are taking part in National Volunteer Appreciation Week and there are so many amazing volunteers we want to give a shout-out to! Living for Zachary is honored to have so many great people serving on our Board of Directors, Physician Advisory Board, Physician Reading Panel,  and all of the other volunteers who help out all of our events!

Now you may be wondering, what do all of these people do? Who are they? We’re giving you all a detailed description of these amazing individuals!

Board of Directors

We have a long list of volunteers on the Board of Directors that have different stories as to how they came across our organization. Their stories are all very different, but all of them have one thing in common. They all have the heart for this nonprofit. The Board of Directors’ responsibility is to lead, guide, and grow the organization. All of these men and women come together and discuss how to focus on the mission that has been established for Living for Zachary.

Our mission:

Living for Zachary is dedicated to raising awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in youth and saving lives through community education and and awareness events, promoting youth heart screenings, awarding student scholarships and donating Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to youth-based organizations.

You can read more about these extraordinary members here.

Physician Advisory Board

There are many physicians that have partnered with us to help raise awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest in youth. In order to provide the right information to anyone interested in knowing more about SCA, we need to make sure to consult qualified professionals. These medical professionals advise best practices for our Living for Zachary Heart Screenings, give medical input, and also help guide this organization. We appreciate the time these physicians dedicate! Find out more about them here.

Physician Reading Panel

One of the many ways that Living for Zachary gives back to the community is by offering heart screenings for youth ages 12-22. It is very important to help detect any heart irregularities before it is too late. For a free youth heart screening you can find out more here.

The physicians who serve here are in large part involved with the heart screenings. Their main role is to contact the family and read the results of the screenings. If there is a concern to address, they explain the next steps.

If you would like a youth heart screening and can’t attend any of the events, you can always book an appointment with The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano here.

Event Volunteers

We can’t forget about the amazing people who help out at all of our events like the HeartBeats Run, Heart Screening events, CPR/AED trainings, and more. This list of volunteers includes moms, students, and members from other organizations that believe in the work that Living for Zachary is doing!
